Pretty Little Thing

Pretty Little Thing

My addiction to Pretty Little Thing is beyond me. However the name is far to what it describes me, as I’m a mature woman wearing a demographic age bracket that dare I say caters to a much younger consumer, but that said I think I can still rock a number or two. I know I did the make up a little over the top in this look but during my usual happy bubbly self I was going out to have some fun. Here’s one of my favourites.
The clutch bag you see here is actually my YSL make up bag. I couldn’t find the right bag that night so just had to improvise and make do! Shoes are by Sam Elderman.

Another one of my favourites is this pink lace cut out dress – I’m not sure why at the moment but I seem to have a thing for lace dresses.

Sheer Chemistry Tights!

Sheer Chemistry Tights!

I’m not a tights person, believe me!!! Even though I think they look sexy on a woman including suspenders, for me I’ve always had issues with them. I always felt either somehow restricted, I could never find the right size and the biggest issue as a woman of colour, the SHADE! Goodness me, how many times have I bought the wrong colour, or because I thought it was the closest match. During the last couple of years that’s all change with new designers, creators, business owners descending upon us like nowhere and the big brands starting to explore a bit deeper to capitalise on the ‘Woman of Colour’ who ‘newsflash’, er some of us do wear tights, just like we like to wear makeup, (another topic for discussion later). Meet Tahlia Gray, founder of Sheer Chemistry Tights – Her tights are curated for the women of colour and also every shade for all. Please check her out as her brand is doing big things! X

Vitamin E Oil by Health Aid

Vitamin E Oil by Health Aid

As far as I can remember I’ve been using this Vitamin E oil for the longest. It’s pure, it’s simple, and it’s unscented. Blessed to have oily skin.  However when applying this you have be careful if your skin is the same as mine as this oil is super thick, super rich, non-diluted like other brands and therefore only a small amount is recommended especially for those tiny fine lines or any scars. It’s the best on the market with its 100 % pure ingredients that have served me well over the years.

Nails INC

Nails INC

Bright neon looking nail paint colours, of course they are not going to go a miss when I came across these in my local TKMAXX store.  They look too good to eat with it’s bubblegum looking colours ((Regents Park with Collagen, Golden Lane and Covent Garden Mews) and very much summer ready especially if you’re planning a vacation somewhere hot, tropical or just some sunshine. Ok so let’s get to the review, Nails Inc, well I have to say this set of 3 polishes was really good value for money (£6.99) especially since generally one polish is a lot more at your average high street store. Did I tell you I am serial bargain hunter so when I saw the price my eyes just lit up. More on the ‘serial bargain’ persona later: ). My favourite colour out of the three is the Regents Park with Collagen which is the pink/red colour as I prefer these shades especially on my toe nails. The second would be the more yellow shade – Golden Lane.  Any lastly I’m not feeling my love for the Covent Garden Mews – it’s just not my cup of tea but it looks good in the bottle however.

What I like about Nails Inc is that they don’t chip easily unlike many other brands used in the past and generally last really well (well I say this but what is last really well I hear you say….a week on average. The quality and formula is quite rich too exceeding my expectations which is a number one factor when purchasing any nail polish, it’s got to last and be of value for money, right!  I recently had to make a conscious decision getting my nails done professionally at my local nail bar and therefore had to take a break – reason, well to save money (girls got to save those coins and invest), and also give my nails a break.  It all adds up every three to four weeks.  Check them out here and don’t say I don’t give you anything.  As well as TKMAXX always do your research especially online to get the best deal you can find.

Vogue – 5-day beauty Event 2018

Vogue – 5-day beauty Event 2018

When I bought my ticket to the Vogue 5-Day Beauty event I forgot the sheer magnitude of this iconic brand that I was actually going to… really I hear you say – BRITISH VOGUE so when I arrived at their London office for the event, I was simply in awe, no I mean it, literally…. like I felt privileged to be in their presence. I was the first one to arrive to ensure I had a front seat (‘’you’re so eager Micsholla’’) sitting waiting for a friend to arrive in the tiny reception area.  Luckily for me the security guard was warm and friendly. My only thought was this reception area is super small for such a massive establishment! As my friend arrived we swapped pleasantries and chatted excitedly watching every fashionable – Insta-body grace through the revolving doors in an out of the building. Randomly during more chit chat, a gracefully figure walked past with a lady who appeared to just step off the runway.  It was the man himself, Mr Vogue, Mr Edward Enninful who we recognized instantly, we were in utter shock.  I think at that point we were star struck.  It was around lunchtime so I guess no surprises it was super busy. We were lucky I thought because the kind security guard said we could wait inside as we were there super early and at this point, the queue of the attendees outside was getting super long. The next person to enter was the super mega brand owner Maria Hatzistefanis aka Mrs Rodial who I was looking forward to hear. She was looking fabulous wearing a long jersey dark printed dress by Balenciaga, accompanied with a pair of red suede striking ankle boots to finish the look – now she looked like a rock star I thought!  I’ve been following her for ages on Instagram after accidentally discovering her brand. She was the keynote speaker and later discussed the challenges, intricacies about how she started the business, from being fired, knowing your passion and the highs and lows, and as they say the rest is history.

And finally the highlight of this event was discovering a week later that I appeared in VOGUE – I mean come on……. I wasn’t looking my best but I was utterly over the moon and grateful to be in such an iconic magazine, WOW!  Apparently during the networking session I was not aware my photo was taken – just as well I didn’t look my worse I thought! Fabulous event and look forward to going to the next one. x
